A REPERTOIRE IN Black
With its historical references and modern design, the Chronodate blends different eras. The collection combines the historic Angelus brand – and its contribution to Swiss watchmaking heritage – with Angelus as it is today. The Chronodate complication was chosen to evoke the brand’s early successes in 1935, when it helped pioneer double push-piece chronograph wristwatches. Alongside this historical tribute, Angelus has preserved its modern standards and comfort with a case made from multiple materials and structures. The A-500 calibre is housed in a carbon composite case, which is itself encased in a 5N red gold case.

A modern case
The Chronodate features a 42.5 mm case that embodies the neoretro spirit of these sporty chronographs. The movement is housed in a casing crafted from a carbon-fibre composite. The chronograph pushers, as well as the ring between the case middle and bezel, are also made from carbon composite.
Around this container, Angelus has designed an attachment system featuring an openworked cradle that aligns the case middle and lugs into a single line, made from 5N red gold. It also houses the bezel marked with 12 notches, which is also cut from the same gold.

A flexible structure
This modular superstructure was designed to work with various materials. Their chamfered profiles, alternating right angles and curves, and the energy they convey establish the sporty character of the Chronodate. The same applies to the crown, which has a wide shape that extends out from its guard and a central rubber strip, making it easier to operate.

A dynamic movement
Inside the Chronodate is Angelus’s chronograph movement. Oscillating at a frequency of 4 Hz, the A-500 calibre features a column wheel and a horizontal coupling clutch to maintain a slim profile. It functions through a self-winding system with a 5N red gold and tungsten oscillating weight shaped like a capital letter “A” above a star – Angelus’s emblem depicting a bell and its clapper. A nod to the early days of Angelus, located right at the heart of the mechanism.

Chronograph aesthetics
The Chronodate displays the small seconds at 9 o’clock and the 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock. A hand-based date display circles the edge of the dial, paying homage to the first Angelus Chronodate in 1942. Its red arrowhead sets the tone for the secondary indications; the markings on the chronograph push-pieces, the chronograph central seconds hand and the 30-minute counter hand are all finished with a touch of red lacquer.
